site STORY
Dynamic Furniture manufactures wooden bedroom suites and occasional furniture for the low and mid-priced household market, in both traditional and contemporary style. But trying to find and navigate their product selection was not always easy. So they approached FoundPages, and FoundPages subcontracted the design work out to me.
Dynamic had some ideas of what they wanted, including Flash, a "D"-shaped navigation menu to mirror their logo, and a product catalogue that allows for category and sub-category navigation, which is a visually appealing and easily navigable. In other words, a commercial look with modern flare and clean lines was exactly what Dynamic's site needed.
Dynamics colors are grey and red, which featured prominently in the redesign of their site. Strong branding was a key consideration in color scheme, since I wanted visitors to always know whose site they were on. On the main page, I chose a very graphic layout that would prominently feature some of Dynamic's products, while the subpages would allow the site visitor to focus on the products, without being distracted by extraneous details.
In implementing the site, I dug into multiple corners of my web-designer toolbox: html for the page structure, css for all of the page layouts and mouse-over effects, Flash for the banner, Photoshop for the imagery, and JavaScript for an expandable menu. The most intricate part of the site is the gallery, which uses a neat image-replacement technique, all done in CSS.
